China Beach is one of the best-kept secrets for family photography in San Francisco. Tucked below Sea Cliff, it’s small, sheltered, and faces directly toward the Golden Gate (which means the late afternoon light is extraordinary). An early evening session here catches that soft, warm glow off the water just before sunset, with the bridge hanging in the background like it was placed there just for you.
This session was with a young family of three (relaxed, unhurried, and completely in their element by the water). China Beach is an easy 20-minute drive from most of Marin County and one of my favorite locations for San Francisco family photography.
