San Rafael is the beating heart of Marin County — the county seat, the cultural center, and home to some of the most diverse and interesting families I photograph. It also has some surprisingly beautiful photography locations, from the oak-studded hills of the Dominican neighborhood to the shoreline at China Camp and McNears Beach.
I offer in-home newborn and family sessions throughout San Rafael — from the flat streets of the Canal neighborhood to the hillside homes above the freeway — as well as outdoor sessions at the parks and open spaces that San Rafael families know and love.
Favorite Locations in San Rafael
China Camp State Park
One of the most beautiful and underused photography locations in Marin — a historic shrimping village on the bay, with marshland, oak woodland, and sweeping views of the San Pablo Bay. Stunning for family sessions and maternity portraits at golden hour.
McNears Beach
A low-key county park on the bay with sandy beach, picnic areas, and good light in the late afternoon. Great for families with young kids — easy to reach, easy to navigate, and genuinely beautiful.
Dominican Neighborhood
The oak-covered hills above the college have a warm, peaceful energy and beautiful residential streets. In-home sessions in Dominican-area homes often have excellent natural light and a sense of settled, leafy calm.
Albert Park
Right in downtown San Rafael, with big shade trees and open lawn — a convenient, accessible option for families who want a park session without a long drive. Great for milestone and toddler sessions.
