Her daughter held that doll like it was the only thing in the world. Serious expression, direct eye contact. That’s who this kid is. I’ve been photographing this family since their oldest was a newborn, so watching them grow in Marin County has been a gift. Their house tells the story better than I ever could: lived-in, full of light, toys everywhere, and genuine connection happening in every room.

One mom guided tiny hands toward baskets. The other leaned down for a kiss on the floor. They sprawled together on the patterned rug, heads tilted back laughing, the kind of laughter that makes you forget the camera’s there. Pink striped shirts and green crayons and bare feet on wood floors. This is what in-home sessions are really about. Not posing. Just being together in the spaces where they actually live.

Outside in Marin County, the backyard had its own magic: swings in dappled light, flowering vines framing the white-washed walls, that blue door behind them. Three kids running, one mid-stride, forest light catching everything. After all these years watching this family grow, seeing how much has changed and how much stays exactly the same. That’s why I do this.

I’d love to be there.
