Soft gray wraps, tiny hands grasping fingers, a newborn sleeping against their father’s chest. This was Cass’s first session with this family in their Marin home, and it turned into so much more. Years later, she’d photograph these girls through summers, watching them grow.

The light came through the windows exactly right—warm, gentle, unforced. A mother gazing down at her newborn. An older sister reaching toward her sibling with genuine curiosity. Parents cradling both children on white bedding, all of them close. The kind of afternoon where everything in the frame felt unhurried and true.

Cass still remembers this one.
