Anneliese and Jonny’s San Francisco home on a foggy morning, overcast coming through the big windows perfectly. First-time parents have this particular energy, like they’re still getting used to the whole thing. These two had that, plus they kept making me laugh.

We moved room to room following the light. In the bedroom, Jonny leaned down to kiss Byron’s forehead while Anneliese watched, like he forgot I was even there. That’s when things get good. Byron was in a golden knit wrap, she had her mustard cardigan on, and their yellow abstract art made it into basically every other frame.

My favorite: Anneliese on the cream sofa with Byron against her chest, his tiny hand grabbing at her wrap. And Byron’s big sister showing up and just staring at him, like he was the most interesting thing she’d ever seen. Maybe he was.

If you’re expecting or just had a baby and want to document the early days at home (your light, your rooms), I’d love to be there.
