The mom was just open. Completely herself, in her bedroom, postpartum attire, newborn in arms, November light coming through the bay windows like it had somewhere to be. That light moved across the room the whole morning.

The baby was in the best mood (one of those newborns who just lets you in, calm and present and easy to be around). Because of that, and because the mom set such an honest tone from the start, the whole session had this quality of things unfolding naturally. Nobody was performing. The toddler wandered in and out. The husband was just present, easy. Small real details kept surfacing: a stuffed animal on the sofa, the specific texture of the blanket, the way she held her daughter against her chest with that exhausted, full-hearted look that is so particular to those first weeks.

This is the kind of session I think about afterward. Not because anything dramatic happened, but because nothing was forced. The stories came from the real details: the realness of the mom, the sweetness of the baby, a family of four just being themselves in their home on a November morning in the East Bay. If you’re expecting and thinking about an in-home newborn session anywhere in the Bay Area, I’d love to talk.
